What is a telescopic crane?
Telescopic crawler cranes operate on a boom and jib system.
The boom is usually the first thing you’ll notice and has many tubes fitted on the inside. The length of the boom can be extended or retracted via hydraulics to meet the required needs of the specific job.
The jib is the part that’s connected to the boom and makes the crane mobile, with several different jibs available including a fixed jib, a mechanical jib, a double folding jib, and a luffing jib.
And, because these cranes are fitted with a hydraulic boom rather than a lattice boom, the costs for transportation are much lower.
What are telescopic cranes used for?
A telescopic mobile crane is a useful piece of equipment for hauling operations. Our crawler cranes are renowned for their flexibility and versatility – suiting a range of applications. They also feature a superstructure at the top, meaning they can be used as tower cranes, too.
The telescopic mobile crane has a great load capacity for lifting heavy goods at height – especially in areas where space is restricted. The height can also be adjusted to make it easier for you to lift materials reliably, without causing damage or injury. Add to this their speedy setup, and telescopic cranes are ideal for emergency and rescue operations.
Aside from transferring objects to a high place and manoeuvring loads with excellent precision, telescopic crane hire also makes light work of cargo embarking and disembarking at ports.
How can you benefit from telescopic crawler crane hire?
A telescopic crane provided by BJW Cranes, offers exceptional lifting capacity, allowing you to move heavy loads quickly and safely.
One of the reasons why our cranes are so popular is that they are easy to set up – making them especially useful for emergency or rescue jobs.
Unlike other types of cranes, telescopic cranes require less time spent on preparation, allowing you to get started on your project faster. This ultimately enhances efficiency and productivity, enabling you to complete tasks on time.
The telescopic crane is mobile. It can be driven to a location of your choice and incorporates several axles which enable you to manoeuvre and set up in tight spots in the city or other terrains.
Boasting a compact design, telescopic boom cranes are especially beneficial in situations where multiple obstructions and obstacles are present (i.e. narrow streets, high-rise buildings, parked cars, overhead cables, low bridges, etc.).
In choosing a telescopic crane, you’re sure to benefit from the precision with every lift. All our cranes can reach up high and provide low running costs.

Do you need to lift large, cumbersome loads at height? Is space at a premium on your site? Perhaps you need a crane that offers stability on various terrains?
Telescopic cranes offer a very speedy set-up, which makes them perfect for jobs where heavy goods need to be moved quickly.
These cranes have lots of advantages, including a high reach, similar to tower cranes. They can also carry heavy loads precisely in tight spots without sacrificing safety or efficiency.
Telescopic cranes are also widely recognised as being easy to manoeuvre. They have numerous axles that enable you to move the crane from one area to the next.
If you think you could benefit from hiring one of our telescopic cranes here at BJW, don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can either call 01724 289 501 or complete the enquiry form above.
The price you’ll pay to hire one of our versatile telescopic cranes can vary considerably, as several factors impact the cost. These include:
• Where you’re based
• How long it will take us to reach your site from the depot
• How much crane hire experience you have
• Whether you have your own safety team for the lift operation
• How long you’ll need to hire the crane for
At BJW, we have depots in Scunthorpe and Immingham. If your project is close to one of our depots, you can expect to pay less as it won’t take us long to get to you. However, if you’re further afield, there will be a small fee for travelling time and fuel.
It’s also worth noting, that you have two options when it comes to hiring a telescopic crane – a CPA hire agreement or a contract lift.
CPA crane hire is best suited to those who have hired a crane in the past and have the appropriate, trained personnel to execute the lift safely. A contract lift is the more expensive option of the two but passes most of the responsibility to the crane provider (us). Meaning you can sit back and relax knowing that every aspect is taken care of properly.

Telescopic crawler cranes and lattice boom cranes are commonly used for wind turbine erection and maintenance.
These cranes offer the lifting height and capacity to handle the components of wind turbines like tower sections, nacelles, and blades. Their crawler tracks are great for stability and mobility on rough terrain including on the uneven surfaces typically found in remote wind farm locations.
Telescopic crawler cranes can also be fitted with specialised attachments and features to optimise their performance in wind turbine-related tasks.
