What Is CPA Crane Hire?

Do you need a crane for your next construction project?

Hiring a crane is a much more affordable alternative to buying such machinery outright. Aside from saving your business money, crane hire also ensures you have the equipment you need, regardless of the task at hand.

There are two main hire options – CPA crane hire and contract lifting. But what exactly is CPA crane hire? What does it entail? And how much does it cost?

Here BJW Cranes explore some of the answers.

What is CPA crane hire?

The CPA (short for Construction Plant Hire Association) is the UK’s leading trade association for the plant hire sector. They have developed a set of conditions that plant hire companies must adhere to whilst working towards BS 7121 standards, otherwise known as ‘The Safe Use of Cranes’.

If you’ve hired a crane in the past, CPA crane hire allows you the flexibility to plan the lift yourself and work at your own pace.

What is provided with CPA crane hire?

When you opt for CPA crane hire, most of the responsibility lies with you.

On the day of crane hire, the BJW Cranes team will simply provide:

  • a suitable crane that’s fully maintained and certified
  • a qualified and competent crane operator to ensure maximum safety

What are you responsible for with a CPA hire agreement?

With CPA hire, you will need to employ appropriately trained people to supervise and oversee the process from start to finish. This includes an appointed person, qualified crane supervisor and slinger/signaller.

You are responsible for providing the method statement and risk assessment whilst also making sure that work is carried out under LOLER regulations and BS 7121 standards.

Another important CPA regulation is insurance cover. When you hire one of our cranes as part of a CPA hire agreement, you need to make sure that you’re insured against injury and damage to the equipment and third parties.

On top of this, we’ll ask you to provide us with the relevant information regarding the items being lifted and the ground conditions. This will allow us to select the best crane for the job – ensuring the safety of your staff and our lifting equipment.

How much does CPA crane hire cost?

The cost of CPA crane hire can vary depending on numerous factors, including:

  • Where you’re based
  • What goods you need to lift or move
  • Which type of crane you need
  • What the ground conditions are like
  • How long you need to hire lifting equipment

CPA crane hire often works out to be the cheapest option – especially if you already have the qualified personnel to execute the lift safely.
